The Junior band is an initiative that started in 2016 for students playing at a grade 2-5 level and is a super-supportive environment. This is a wonderful group who play mainly fun music, with a couple of challenges thrown in! We perform in concerts twice a year alongside the Youth Band players and attend the Matamata Festival of music.

We learn lots of music theory and exercises to help us on our musical journey and prepare us for the possibility of joining the youth band!

NB: There is an annual subscription fee to be part of this band.

In 2018 we played alongside the youth band at the Matamata festival of music and received a GOLD award! Our youngest member onstage was 10 years old!
In 2019 we played alongside the youth band and accompanied Ashleigh Fraser on flute for a band setting of Chaminade's Concertino at the Matamata festival. We received another GOLD award and Ashleigh received the trophy for best soloist. Our youngest member on-stage was 9 years old.
